Personal, Social, Health & Economic Education (PSHE)

At Portfield, we believe that children are happiest and most successful when they have the knowledge, skills and atrributes they need to keep themselves healthy and safe. Our specifically designed PSHE curriculum enables our children to prepare for life and work in modern Britain. For more details of our PSHE curriculum please see the PSHE Spines at the bottom left of this page.

PSHE education enables our pupils to develop into responisble individuals, family members and members of society. We teach PHSE discretely through weekly sessions, through assemblies and through other curriculum areas such as religious education and science.

As part of our PSHE curriculum, we have introduced the MindUp programme which is designed to increase the awareness of mental wellbeing. The MindUp programme:

- is a programme for EYFS-Y6 children, brought to life by a teacher in the classroom

- is a science-centric and evidence-based, with over 10 years of research conducted on the programme’s efficacy

- is grounded in four core pillars: Neuroscience, Positive Psychology, Mindful Awareness and Social-Emotional Learning

- has 15 lessons per key stage that teach activities around topics such as gratitude, mindfulness and perspective taking

- provides an immersive discovery experience along with daily core practices, such as the guided “Brain Break” breathing exercise

- drives positive behaviour, improves learning and scholastic performance, and increases empathy, optimism and compassion
