Sports Premium

The Government is providing additional funding to improve the provision of physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools. This funding - provided jointly by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport - will be allocated to primary school headteachers.

This funding is ring-fenced and therefore can only be spent on provision of PE and sport in schools. Funding for schools is be calculated by reference to the number of primary-aged pupils (between the ages of 5 and 11), as recorded in the annual schools census in January of each year.

Schools must spend the additional funding on additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of PE and sport provision.

How are we spending the Sports Premium funding?

For the academic year 2017-2018 Portfield Primary Academy has been allocated £17,640 (£16,000 as standard and £10 per pupil aged 5 and over) through the Sports Premium funding. (Funding for 2016-2017 was £8,785)

Further information on how this is being spent can be found in the action plan located on the right hand column.

From the 2017/2018 academic year onwards, there is a new condition requiring schools to publish how many pupils within their year 6 cohort are meeting the national curriculum requirement to swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres, use a range of strokes effectively and perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations. Our year 6 cohort data is as follows:
