Forest School

At Portfield we believe in developing the whole child. As a result, Year 2 children at our school have the unique opportunity to experience Forest School, which is run by Releasing Potential (a local charity managed by Mike King, an ex-parent of Portfield). Here they will learn about the natural environment, how to manage risks, how to work as a team and many other vital life-skills. A typical day at Forest School can include a range of sitimulating activities which allow children to experience situations that they would not normally encounter. Some of the activities include:

  • Campfire making and campfire cooking
  • Making hot drinks using a Kellie Kettle
  • Shelter building
  • Woodcraft activities such as charcoal pencils, name tags, butter knife
  • Nature recognition and conservation
